        ‘The Expanse’: Sci-Fi Drama Renewed For Season 5 By Amazon – TCA
        The Expanse is getting a fifth season after being rescued by Amazon Prime Video.

        The Svod service, which is set to air its fourth season of the sci-fi drama beginning December 13, its first as a global Amazon Original, already has handed it a fifth run.

        Season 4 of The Expanse is its first as a global Amazon Original following its cancellation by Syfy. The fourth season begins a new chapter for the series with the crew of the Rocinante on a mission from the Un to explore new worlds beyond the Ring Gate. Humanity has been given access to thousands of Earth-like planets which has created a land rush and furthered tensions between the opposing nations of Earth, Mars and the Belt.         ‘Carnival Row’: Amazon Hands Orlando Bloom & Cara Delevingne Drama Second Season – TCA
        Amazon has handed fantasy drama Carnival Row a second season ahead of the launch of the first season.

        The drama, which stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, will return for a second run as the first season is set to launch globally on August 30.

        The eight-part series is set in a Victorian fantasy world mythological immigrant creatures whose exotic homelands were invaded by the empires of man. The Pirates of the Caribbean star Bloom plays human detective, Rycroft Philostrate, while Suicide Squad star Delevingne stars as a refugee faerie named Vignette Stonemoss. They rekindle a dangerous affair despite an increasingly intolerant society and Vignette harbors a secret that endangers Philo’s world during his most important case yet: a string of gruesome murders threatening the uneasy peace of the Row.

        Forest Whitaker’s Significant Productions Sets Amazon First-Look Deal
        Forest Whitaker and his Significant Productions co-founder Nina Yang Bongiovi have signed a first-look deal with Amazon.

        Under the deal, Whitaker’s production banner will work with Amazon Studios to develop TV series for the company’s streaming platform. The duo founded Significant back in 2010 with the aim of focusing on diversity in front of and behind the camera. So far, the company’s biggest hit has been the Ryan Coogler-directed “Fruitvale Station.”

        “Significant Productions, fueled by the vision of Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi, has given a platform to emerging talent and created brilliant, critically acclaimed, and commercially successful projects across film and television,” said Albert Cheng, COO and co-head of television at Amazon in a statement. “We are looking forward to working with Significant Productions as they continue to develop fresh voices to tell even more important, inclusive stories.”

        Lena Waithe has signed a new overall deal at Amazon.

        The announcement was made at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Saturday. Waithe already has a two-season commitment at Amazon for the horror anthology series “Them,” and will create and produce other original series under the new deal. She had previously been set up under a first-look deal at Showtime.

        “Lena is a powerhouse writer and producer who also has a gift for identifying exciting and authentic voices,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “Our upcoming series ‘Them’ is the result of her rare ability to cultivate brilliant voices like Little Marvin and bring his wholly original and compelling vision to Amazon.         Amazon Orders ‘The Banker’s Wife’ Series From ‘Homeland’ Executive Producers
        Amazon has ordered a series from two of the executive producers behind “Homeland.”

        “The Banker’s Wife,” an international thriller based on the best-selling novel by Cristina Alger, has been handed an eight-episode order by the streamer. Meredith Stiehm will write all eight episodes, with fellow “Homeland” executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter in position to direct.

        The series set in the world of global finance and follows two women searching for answers when a mysterious plane crash sets them off on parallel pursuits of truth. As they shine a light on hidden offshore accounts meant to be kept in the dark, the pair become embedded within a larger conspiracy of money laundering, powerful politicians and a web of terrorists and criminals.

        Amazon has set a slew of creative execs for its forthcoming Lord of the Rings TV series including Eps from Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad and The Sopranos as well as former head of genre Sharon Tal Yguado.

        This comes a year after setting feature writers Jd Payne and Patrick McKay to develop and write the company’s high-profile adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic, which was brought to life by Peter Jackson in his blockbuster movie franchise..

        Exec producers including Lindsey Weber (10 Cloverfield Lane), Bruce Richmond (Game of Thrones), Gene Kelly (Boardwalk Empire) and Tal Yguado as well as writer/executive producer Gennifer Hutchison (Breaking Bad); writer/executive producer Jason Cahill (The Sopranos) writer/executive producer Justin Doble (Stranger Things).

        Mary J. Blige will be headlining the first spinoff of the well watched series, executive producers Courtney Kemp and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson revealed today near the end of the TCA mega-panel for the Starz flagship series for “The Final Betrayal” sixth and final season.

        “Today we are pleased to announce that we are in pre-production on the first of what we know will be a collection of series inspired by the dynamic world of Power, said Kemp dropping the news as the Apa-repped Blige bound into the ballroom. Power Book II: Ghost will continue the journey of some of Power’s most controversial characters.”

        “This is probably going to be the most exiting thing that will happen to me this year,” the multi-Grammy and Oscar nominee told the TCA audience in her surprise appearance.

        ‘The Continental’: ‘John Wick’ TV Adaptation Unlikely To Air Before May 2021 & Starz Chief Refuses To Tease Keanu Reeves On-Screen Role – TCA
        The Continental, Starz’s TV series spinoff of Keanu Reeves’ feature franchise John Wick, is unlikely to air until at least late 2021.

        When asked whether the TV remake — which will focus on the inner workings of the exclusive Continental Hotel that serves as a refuge for assassins — would launch before the fourth film debuts in May 2021, Starz COO Jeffrey Hirsch admitted that it was unlikely.

        “My sense is that where we are today, the movie date has been set but we’re still in early development on the series so [it will air] most likely after,” he said today at the summer TCA press tour.

        The series, which was picked up by the Lionsgate-backed broadcaster in January 2018, comes from Lionsgate TV and is being written by Chris Collins who serves as showrunner.         Amazon Drops ‘Transparent,’ ‘Jack Ryan’ Teasers

        Amazon dropped a cluster of teasers during its Television Critics Association press tour, including a preview clip for the musical feature finale which will close out “Transparent.”

        Showrunner Jill Soloway said that turning the show’s curtain call, which streams September 27, into a feature-length musical felt like a “chance to heal” after the fallout from the Jeffrey Tambor scandal.

        The studio also dropped a teaser for the second season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” which will see John Krasinski return as the titular CIA officer. In season 2, Ryan investigates a potentially suspicious shipment of illegal arms in the Venezuelan jungle.
